"Dr. Lawrence did my first breast cancer reconstruction 18 years ago and the results were amazing. Fast forward to a second breast cancer diagnosis and mastectomy. Due to insurance, I saw a former colleague of hers and I am so disappointed with the results. Dr. Lawrence is the best!"- M.K. / Yelp / Nov 10, 2020
"I can not say enough great things about Dr Lawrence and her staff. From the time you enter the front door you are treated with the most respect and such kindness! Dr Lawrence takes her time and answers all your questions and makes you feel very comfortable."- L.B. / Yelp / Sep 28, 2020
"Consultation review: All round great! - I went to a breast augmentation consultation with another doctor and as soon as I saw Dr. Lawrence I knew she was the one! She's extremely knowledgeable, tells you everything to expect upfront, and listens to your wants and needs. I scheduled my breast augmentation and shortly after I found out I'm pregnant and had to cancel. She was very understanding and I will definitely be back to her once I wean from breastfeeding!"- G. / RealSelf / Sep 15, 2020
"Dr. Lawrence and everyone in the office were absolutely amazing. They took such good care of me in my pre and post operation. They all made me always feel so welcome and not like just another patient. My surgery went perfect and i’m in love with the results. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, would not go anywhere else for a breast augmentation."- H.D. / Google / Aug 19, 2020

During your consultation, Dr. Lawrence will evaluate your body to ascertain if you are a good candidate for abdominal etching. To be a good candidate for abdominal etching surgery, you should be within a normal weight range with isolated pockets of fat in your stomach. You have a low body fat percentage (ideally under 20%) and have tried to define your core through a high-protein diet, regular cardio, and abdominal strength training. Due to genetics, hormones, or pregnancy, you might naturally be unable to get washboard abs.
Dr. Lawrence performs abdominal etching as outpatient surgery in an accredited surgical facility while you are under anesthesia. During the 1 – 2-hour procedure, Dr. Lawrence will make one or more tiny incisions, so she can insert a hollow tube (cannula) to vacuum out fat. Dr. Lawrence generally uses liposculpture techniques to emulsify and remove fat, but may also use Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) to achieve a more dramatic etching. Dr. Lawrence will define the midline linea alba and the outline of the rectus muscle. To reveal a six-pack, she can also define the transverse inscriptions and horizontal lines. Once the fat is removed and the abdominal muscles are completely defined, Dr. Lawrence will close the incisions with sutures.
What to Expect
Following the procedure, you will be fitted with a compression garment to reduce bruising and swelling, which should diminish in about two weeks. You may experience moderate to minimal pain, but you may be able to return to work within 5 – 7 days and resume exercise within three weeks. Dr. Lawrence does her best to put the smallest incisions in your body's natural creases, which means the scars are difficult to see once fully healed. Dr. Lawrence or a member of her team will give you scar care instructions that will ensure your incisions heal cleanly.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does abdominal etching cost?
The cost of your custom treatment plan will be determined during a consultation with Dr. Lawrence. There are many factors to consider before a cost can be determine. After a physical examination and a discussion about your lifestyle, medical history and aesthetic goals, Dr. Lawrence will be able to give you a cost estimate for your procedure. Will it give me washboard abs?
Abdominal etching is a liposuction procedure that targets fat deposits around the abdominal muscles to define and contour, giving the appearance of “washboard abs”. The reason why it is difficult to achieve this effect with standard diet and exercise is because of resistant fat in the midsection.
How does it work?
Our abdominal etching procedures are performed using tumescent liposuction. This procedure is minimally invasive and requires very minimal incisions. This allows for the cannula to be inserted while wounds are easily concealed. The liposuction will target a thin layer of fat and soft tissues, and Dr. Lawrence will manipulate the internal structures so that the desired sculpted appearance is attained.
Will I have scars?
This is a minimally invasive procedure so the incisions made during the procedure are very small, just large enough to insert the necessary tools. For this reason, any scarring left behind will be very small and hidden in inconspicuous areas that can be easily concealed.
