What is Melasma?

Melasma is a skin condition in which brown patches appear on the skin. It often times is called “pregnancy mask” or “butterfly mask” due to it typically occurring during or after pregnancy and it having a butterfly shape. Melasma is a hormonal condition that can surface over the course of several years. It can be triggered by heat, sun exposure, changes in medications such as birth control and pregnancy.

Can Melasma be treated?

If you are in Atlanta and looking for solutions to melasma we have options at Marisa Lawrence Plastic Surgery. Our Medical Esthetician & Master Laser Specialist, Courtney Cox, has designed a Melasma Boot Camp to help treat and control melasma. Melasma is a condition that may never go away completely, but it can be improved and managed.

What is Melasma Boot Camp?

Melasma Boot Camp is a comprehensive treatment protocol that includes in-office treatments, skin care and a prescription if the patient qualifies. Treatments are spaced one month to 6 weeks apart and work synergistically to break up the pigment at multiple levels for a brighter, more even skin tone.
