Voluma (Alle) vs. Lyft (Galderma)

The use of facial fillers across the country has grown significantly in the past few years with roughly 5.3 million procedures completed last year alone. The advancement in filler technology, appeal of minimal downtime and wide array of choices, facial fillers are becoming an increasingly sought after procedure for patients looking for a more refreshed appearance.

Hyaluronic acid is the crucial ingredient in dermal fillers.  With the help of water molecules, it gives a hydrating and volumizing effect while simultaneously integrating naturally with the surrounding tissue.  Each filler is assigned a G prime (G’) which refers to the filler’s ability to be flexible and pliable.  The lower the G’ the more mobile and fluid the filler is.  The higher G’ fillers, like Lyft and Voluma, are more structured and denser.  So, it is likely if your goal is to replace volume loss in the cheeks and midface or improve chin shape or projection, Lyft and Voluma are the first fillers your injector will recommend.  Let’s discuss each separately to better understand what is right for you.

Restylane Lyft

Lyft is made up of large gel particles with the highest G’ designed for cheek augmentation and treat age-related volume loss of the medial cheek as well as nasolabial folds.   It is also approved to improve volume in the hands. This filler is a great option for those seeking non-surgical improvements in the midface.

Results can start to be seen immediately but full results are expected in two weeks once any swelling and bruising have subsided.  These results can last up to 12 months or longer, which is an added benefit for those who want less frequent injections.

Juvederm Voluma

Voluma is a hyaluronic acid filler that uses short chains of hyaluronic acid.  This works by making a more effective “cross link” which helps to provide a lifting power as well as a softness that can be molded when first injected. It is designed for cheek augmentation and age-related volume loss of the midface.  This filler is also approved for use in temporal hollows and for chin augmentation.

Results are seen immediately with full results expected at two weeks after swelling and bruising have settled.  The results can last up to 2 years or longer.
