About Sculptra

Lost volume occurs naturally during the aging process, particularly in the face as the cheeks become flat and hollow. Marisa Lawrence Plastic Surgery founder and double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Marisa Lawrence offers Sculptra Aesthetic, a poly-L-lactic acid-based dermal filler that allows for fuller and longer-lasting volume replacement in the mid-face. In addition to increasing the volume of the cheeks, Sculptra can decrease the appearance of shallow to deep lines and wrinkles, including the nasolabial folds (also known as smile or laugh lines) that go from the edges of the nose to the corners of the mouth. With its unique formula approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Sculptra prompts the natural production of collagen in your body so even if you stop treatments, your skin will still be healthier compared to before Sculptra injections. Schedule an appointment for a consultation at Marisa Lawrence Plastic Surgery in Atlanta or Alpharetta, GA to discover the benefits of this dermal filler.

Ideal Candidates

Sculptra is great for patients who want to improve contour in their cheeks without implants and surgery. Some candidates may have naturally hollow cheeks while others experience full cheeks that have deflated with age. Sculptra injections can also be used to improve shallow to deep facial lines and wrinkles, including chin wrinkles, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds. Since Sculptra helps to prompt the body's natural production of collagen, many patients will notice a visible improvement in the appearance and health of their skin.

Procedure Technique

After your consultation to develop your unique treatment plan, you will receive your Sculptra injections in one of our procedure rooms. The injector may apply a numbing cream or local anesthetic before sterilizing and marking the sites to be injected. Once you are ready, the filler will be injected down to the deeper layers of the skin at the selected areas of the face. For best results, Dr. Lawrence recommends a series of four Sculptra injections, each performed at Marisa Lawrence Plastic Surgery about three weeks apart.

What to Expect

After your appointment, you may have mild to moderate redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection areas that should resolve naturally in several days. To encourage healing, you can apply cold packs to the injected areas. You should avoid UV exposure as much as possible after your appointment and use sun protection. Most patients will notice clear improvements immediately following their Sculptra injections with final results seen after a few months as the natural production of collagen strengthens the skin. When performed as a series of injections over the course of 3 – 4 months, a patient's results can last up to two years.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Sculptra cost?
Sculptra injections can range in price, depending on how many units are needed to realize your wanted results. Some patients may also need a string of treatment for the optimal outcome. During your consultation, we will discuss your treatment targets and tailor a treatment plan for your specific budget.

How does Sculptra work?
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator that operates within the dermis of the skin to help stimulate the production of collagen. It can help to restore the skin’s inner structure and volume over time as more collagen is formed. The rebuilt strands of collagen can effectively plump and fill out facial folds and wrinkles.

Are Sculptra injections safe?
Approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), Sculptra has a very long history of safety worldwide since 1999. Though side effects are uncommon, they can include slight pain, bruising, swelling, and/or redness. In some cases, bumps may become noticeable when pressure is put on the injected area. Contact Marisa Lawrence Plastic Surgery if you experience any abnormal or lasting side effects.

What is the best age to receive Sculptra?
Sculptra is beneficial for those who are attempting to soften and decrease the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. It can specifically be used to restore chin wrinkles, lines surrounding the mouth, and deep lines between the nose and mouth. The most frequent age to receive Sculptra injections is between ages 30 – 55; nevertheless, it is also common for patients who are younger and older than this range to receive injections.

How long do Sculptra results last?
For longer-lasting results, some patients may want to receive several Sculptra treatments. Sculptra is different from other fillers because the results usually last up to two years. Since the production of collagen continues to develop over time, results may appear more gradually.
